First off I want to thank Martin and his crew for all of their help with my Blue Great Dane Sullivan. With
that said let me tell you what brought to me to seeking out the help of Martins K9.
Imagine one day your dog
limps a bit and you look at his paw to find that an entire toe nail is missing. Your first thought is likely
that he ran too hard and caught it, and in some cases, that really is all that happened. Sometimes, though,
if you look at the remaining nails, you'll discover a bigger problem. There may be several toe nails that
seem abnormal - loose, tender, draining.
This is exactly what happened to Sullivan. After numerous trips to
the vet with out much success in telling me what was wrong with him, I was able to track down his condition
with the help of my breeder and a great online group located at Yahoo Pet Groups. Sullivan was diagnosed with
Symmetrical Lupoid Onychodystrophy (SLO). SLO is thought to be an autoimmune disease that targets the toe
nails. The hallmark of autoimmune diseases is that the body mistakenly forms antibodies against part of
itself. If it's antibodies against our red blood cells then we destroy our own blood and become anemic. If
it's antibodies against our joints then we become arthritic. In the case of SLO, dogs form antibodies against
their toe nails, and reject them.
WHAT ARE THE SIGNS? Multiple nail loss, Licking the nails, Visible oozing
around the base of the nail, Separation of the nail from the quick, Limping, Infection and Odor
WHAT IS THE
TREATMENT? This must be treated as an immune disorder, not a simple infection. There is often a 6-10 week lag
time to see a good response to treatment. Treatment must extend over a period of at least many months, and in
many cases, years. Relapses are common
MEDICATIONS. In all cases, essential fatty acids should be started
immediately but because of the nature of the disease, it may be 6 weeks or longer to see improvement. The
recommended dose is 180 mg eicosapentanoic acid (EPA) per 10 pounds. Sources of EPA are 1000 mg fish oil
capsules contain 180 mg EPA, so a 60 pound dog should get 6 fish oil capsules a day. 3V HP caps, Derm Caps ES,
Vitamin E 400 IU every 12 hours. If the problem is severe or advanced at diagnosis, there are other
medications that can also used.
PROGNOSIS. This disease tends to remain a life-long problem with
afflicted dogs, but it is also one that can almost always be controlled with medication. With luck, over 6-8
months, new nails will regrow and your hound will be pain-free.
After having listened to the so called
experts and taking Sullivan off of his normal raw diet and putting him onto a can and kibble food diet thought
to help aid the immune system in its fight agaisnt SLO. Well I found that to not be the case. Sullivan began
to rapidly lose weight and muscle tone, as well a loss of activity. I had enough and wanted to find a solution
to the his weight problem while being able to treat the SLO. By recomendation I was referred to Martin's
K9.
Martin was able to walk me through step by step the proper nutrition and supplementation I needed to get
Sullivan back up and running so to speak. I was able to put Sullivan back on the raw diet he loved so much,
while being able to add the kibble that he needed to it. We also added supplements to help boost his immune
and keep the SLO at bay. With in one month’s time Sullivan had gained back his lost weight in addition to a
few extra pounds.
Not only was Martin able to help me with Sullivan’s SLO issue through proper use of diet
and supplementation, but he was also help me to cure the worse case of Happy Tail my vet had ever seen.
Nothing was working and we were ready to have the tail amputated when Martin said three magic words to
me…Martin’s Super Salve. In less than a month the tail was healed and we did not have to amputate it. Buy
stock in the stuff if you can…..LOL
Thanks once again to Martin and his crew for helping me get my Great Dane
back.

Hi!
I wanted to say thank you for making such good dog food! I adopted my pit bull a little over a year
ago, and when she came her coat was AWFUL, very thin and dull, on top of having a very low body weight (only
46 lbs. My dogs trainer recommended that we give her your formula, so we gave it a try, along with mixing it
with what we have for dinner (steak, chicken, rice, veggies, etc). Her coat is absolutely beautiful. I am
constantly getting compliments on how beautiful she is. Her body weight has gone up to 55 pounds, and she is
pure muscle. So I wanted to say thank you for making your formula so great!!!

Hi Marty,

I want to comment on your description about livestock guardian breeds being handled by
strangers. In my opinion based on observing real LGDs in central and eastern Europe and talking to many
experienced LGD owners and ownng one myself, these breeds are protective when they are on their home territory
or if they are off of their property and there is a significant threat to their people.

Out side of those
two situations, aggressiveness to humans is undesirable and largely not tolerated and dogs that act that way
are often culled. if it is observed, it is from improper socialization or bad breeding.

I can show you
video footage of a Balkan LGD breed, the Sarplaninac, absolutely enraged when threatened by a stranger and
then immediately calm down and become affectionate to the same total stranger once the owner tells the dog the
person is ok. In this instance, that person is myself and not only was the dog affactionate with me but I
could take him out of the kennel and walk him on a lead rough house with him and control him myself. This was
a real LGD a puppy from two working Sars in the Sara Mountains in Macedonia.

Your bad experiences with LGDs
as you described to me have been very limited and primarily with Caucasian Ovcharkas and that breed is not
representative of the vast majority of LGD breeds. And because of that my opinion is that your perspective of
the true temperament of most LGD breeds is very inaccurate. Like the point of your post that bully breeds in
general are not vicious to people.

I just wanted to clear the air and set the record straignt so the that
the typical LGD temperament is not misrepresented and people don't develop an inaccurate opinion of LGDs.
Most LGD breeds do not even remotely act like the Caucasian Ovcharka.

Just wanted to let you know that we gave the bag of your dog food to my mom. Boomer, the springer

parents are thrilled with it also. So glad they finally listened to us. Thank you again. See you soon.

I've read you articles about the Dog Whisperer Cesar Millan and I think this is a "tempest in a
teapot". I have watched his show from the begining and I'm sure you will remember many of the
original shows were about dogs that everybody else had given up on and were about to be put down until Cesar
arrived and completely remediated the problem in about 2-1/2 minutes. This man seems to me to really care
about dogs and completedly understands them, more so than anyone I've ever seen before. If dogs died
under his care it must have been accidental. If I were having a serious behavioral problem I would absolutely
want to see Cesar!!!

The new site looks great and Ajax is doing very well on your raw meat products (40
lbs. every 2 weeks). You have been a marvelous resource for me that I really appreciate and I heartily
recommend you and your food to anyone who is interested.

Marty, I have used Matins' Formula food for over 6 years and Max is very healthy.

When the pellet
size was reduced Max began choking on his food. Your advice helped correct his choking when eating the
Martin's Formula dog food.

You have encouraged me to keep you informed should the pellet size become
smaller or larger than normal. Unfortunately, after several months or receiving a satisfactory product,
September's shipment contains various size pellets from small, medium to large. I have taken pictures of
the pellets for your review. Please send men an email address to remit the photos.

Thanks for your
continued help with this matter.

Marty,
Here is a copy of the letter composed by my father to congressman King. Unbelievably, within 12 hours
the mill was released and shipped to new york and I will receive it friday. Once again, I thank you for
helping me out. I genuinely appreciate all you have done for my dogs and I. You are truly one of my great
friends, and I am there for you always. I cannot thank you enough.

Your Friend for
Life,
Will

........................................................

Dear Congressman King:

I have
lived in Long Island for the past twenty years and I am currently a resident of Glen Cove. I have been very
pleased with your representation of my district for these many years and I hope that you will continue to
represent the citizens of our district.

I was very distressed this morning when I was informed that a
package that I was expecting to receive from the Philippines has been intercepted by the U. S. Customs
Agency. I own two very active dogs. In order to make sure that they get the proper amount of exercise I run
them on a dog treadmill when the weather does not permit me to exercise them outside. As you are aware most
communities do not allow owners to unleash their dogs. I live on a property that does not allow fencing. I
use the treadmill to make sure that the dogs get the proper amount of exercise. Dogs are very similar to
humans as they do best when they are kept busy. The exercise allows dogs to expend energy and be better
pets.

DHL has just informed me that I new treadmill that I ordered from the Philippines is being detained
in Customs. I am a responsible business professional who loves animals. I am not involved in dog fighting or
any activity such as that. It appears that in light of the Michael Vick conviction the U. S. Customs is
taking some very arbitrary actions.
It seems to me to be very unamerican to arbitrarily confiscate someones
property without giving them a fair hearing.
I would deeply appreciate any help you could give me in this
matter. I can be contacted either by email or at 516 XXX-XXXX. [Webmaster Edit]

Again, thank you for
representing our district and I hope that you continue to do so.

John Fielding

Hey Marty, just wanted to take a second to say thanks for a great food. I have used your food for about a
year now and I've had great results. I feed a 50/50 mix of Martin's K-9 formula and ground raw meat(chicken
and deer). I have sled dogs and Schutzhund dogs and they all do great on this diet. Matt from Signature K-9
recommended your food to me, it is every bit as good as he said it was.
Thanks again for a great
product!

Martin, as you know I have been feeding your food for over a year now and I wanted to comment that I am very
pleased. But what I really want to comment on was your probiotic w/ enzymes. One of my bitches got rather ill
after eating part of her igloo dog house and had bloody diarrhea literally w/ no stool substance from the
plastic causing serious injury in her GI tract. Supportive vet theropy w/ IV fluids kept her alive, but then
she couldn't keep food down and lost about 10 pounds. I mixed your probiotic w/ enzymes with your kibble and
let it incubate for ~30 minutes with some boiled chicken (bones removed) and broth...she ate it and that was
the beginning of her recovery. I mixed ~1/2 to 1 cc with every meal over the next few days and no more
vomitting, no more diarrhea. She gained all her lost weight back within a week. This product helped save her
life.

Thanks,

Lee Robinson

How are your probiotics different than those found in Health Food Stores for humans? I have two Belgian
Malinois (4-1/2 and 1 year + 9 months) who have had some stomach problems (loose, cowpie stools) the past few
months off and on. GiGi (the youngest)moans occasionally like she has a stomach ache but acts healthy
otherwise. They've been on Albon (twice) and Flagyl and things clear up while they're on it, and then start
again within a couple days after they're off of it. I am on township water (a few miles from town). The dogs
only go out for 10-15 min. at a time in a fenced yard (each has a separate area) Big Mac eats his feces and I
struggle to keep it out of reach! Hard to find in deep snow and dark mornings, however! "Forbid"" did not
seem to work and I'm concerned about the MSG contained in it. Any suggestions? I'm on a very limited budget,
but do feed Solid Gold dog food and have for years. Thanks for your help!
