The GSD is one of the primary police dogs as is the Malinois. However, one should not think that Luis Dobermann developed a second rate dog. In my view what makes a dog great is the attraction of energetic & smart people. In other words, the right crowd!
Around 1955 a show lines dog called Rancho Dobie Storm had the world spinning. Storm won at Westminster and the Doberman Piincher became an in vogue, elegant show dog. The serious working dogs became fewer in number.Whether a Doberman, an American Bull Dog or the Standard Poodle, the right crowd always improves breed function. In the case of the Dobie it was the converse. However, recently we have seen a considerable improvement in the Doberman Pincher as a result of European imports.
The paragraph you are about to read is not about determining what is indecorous, immoral, fair or unfair. It is about fact. It took 350 years to create one of the most athletic animals on earth. The American Pit Bull Terrier. This happend as a result of harsh utilities, but more importantly the breed attracted people that had the genetic accumen to make a super dog. Their energy & genetic know how prevailed. The Bully Breed's blood is frequently used in the improvement of existing breeds & the formation of new breeds.
Many breeds under perform at specific utilities because talentless people are in control. If you took skilled Ring Sport competitors and gave them Dobies to exclusively breed & work, the end result (perhaps) would prove my point. When you see breeds that fail at sport or are sickly with poor longevity, look @ the people in that breed. Sadly, they are the problem. One of my earlier quotes is "Genetics Always Eclipses Nutrition." However, talent eclipses everything! |

I discoverd a web site that is quite disturbing. http://www.chooseveg.com. Perhaps PETA is tied into this video. If so, the information would loose credibility, in my view. |

The people of Zimbabwe speak English & Shona which is their native tongue. The Zimbabwe citizens I met were friendly, engaging & eager to please. Zimbabwe is a country that has great beauty and much to offer. This is a country that has the potential to morph into another Namibia. In biological terms, Zimbabwe's physical development is some where between an embryo and a fetus. The country has yet to be born or perhaps, reborn would be more accurate. I have been told, prior to Mugabe being president the countries economy was much stronger, with greatly reduced inflation. The reported political blood shed was not at all visible to me or (our agent) Clinton Shears. However, the inflation & poverty issues are (sadly) omnipresent.
Zimbabwe interfaces with Zambia @ the Zambezi River. Both coast lines are heavily populated with Crocs, Hippos, Elephants & a vast assortment of plains game. The Zambezi river is over 1,500 miles in length. It's blue water, with it's crystal clarity rivals the famed Caribbean. Inspite of the stats on Hippo attacks, native men fish both banks of the Zambezi with an almost fearless tranquility. The fish are plentiful and wonderful tasting. In addition, I believe some of their trees bear nutritious fruit.
While in Zimbabwe, I saw herds of Cape Buffalo, Hippo Pods, 6 female Lions, 2 Leopards, countless Wart Hogs, troops of Baboons, monkeys & even a pack of Cape Hunting Dogs. Seeing a pack of Cape Hunting dogs was for me a very special treat. I will write about these wondeful creatures in another essay. The Elephant proved to be the most ubiqitous of all the dangerous game animals. In my wildest dreams I thought the Africa of old, Teddy Roosevelt's Africa was long dead. Zimbabwe is not a vestige or historical remnant, she is a huge & beautiful country. As I stated earlier, Zimbabwe is a land wealthy in assets and possibilities. I hope to see her again ! |

Rumors are circulating that chaining your dog will be against the law in some states. The act of chaining your dog is no longer a responsible act.It may now be perceived as animal cruelty. Actualy it is! I agree completely! From the moment you put a noose or a collar around a dogs neck, is that not an act of cruelty? How about crating your dog? Is not containment, in a small area cruelty? Perhaps a leash correction should be considerd an act of cruelty.
Perhaps your child is indecorous & has a temper tantrum & you spank his or her little bottom, you, a lovng parent may go to jail. After all that is clearly an act of parental cruelty. So if you chain your pup or spank your child both are acts of cruelty. Should you do both on the same day, you may need the services of a criminal lawyer. Depending on the sympathy of the jury, you could do hard time.
Since our laws are drafted by qualified & elected officials, legal changes must be appropriate & benefical to the voters- citizens. Why would I, or any one go against political wisdom & legal convention ?

A week ago, I attended a Staffi Bull function in the city of Glen Cove. The function was @ John & Glenna's home. The party was packed with avid dog people. I was asked to put on a nutritional seminar. However,I felt like doing something a little more up beat. So we did a very basic milling seminar, mostly puppies.
Evey pup ran. The children's faces lit up with joy. Pups & kids, that is a hard combination to beat. I got to meet some new people as well as some old timers I knew previously. Wonderful weather, great food, good people, kids & dogs. A good time was had by all! |

I am looking for skilled cartoonists who would be interested in submitting a variety of renderings. I would like the acceptable cartoons to say "PISS ON PETA". With a Bully Breed urinating on A PETA REPRESENTATIVE or their corporate headquarters etc. These perceptive drawings-renderings will also state, in memory of "Eight BELLES." Once the best cartoons are picked we would consider putting the images on T shirts, hats, flags etc. Any Takers??? |
