While on a hunting trip in Alaska I read a book called Flags of Our Fathers. The author is John Bradley .Mr. Bradley’s father participated in the WW11 invasion of  Iwo Jima . The book deals with Marine Corps resolve in perhaps the hardest fought battle in history .Our hunting camp was located on the periphery of Denali National Park. I could not help but think, were it not for the Marines who unselfishly sacrificed life, limb and sanity, I would not be on this trip. I would not have read this book. I would have more than likely been enslaved or killed by the Japanese.

In September of 2005, I watched a televised protest against President Bush’s foreign policy. The crowd, a virtual sea of people, requested the Presidents immediate resignation, or impeachment. The group primarily touchy, feely, left wing types complained about the loss of American life. The protestors focused on the treatment of Afghan and Iraqi prisoners by our troops. Perhaps, in their view the torture  of American hostages and the ( Video taped)  sawing off of their heads is more acceptable behavior. Perhaps many Americans are erroneously forgiving, erroneously proper and erroneously humane.

The protestors never spoke to the new found freedom the people of Iraq are enjoying. The improved lives of Afghan women was avoided .The fact that their minds are  free to absorb non parochial knowledge was never mentioned. The fact that the faces of Afghan women are no longer veiled from the light of day. The protestors failed to mention both the Iraqi and Afghan people were beginning to realize the egalitarian dream. To the protestors, I ask the following: Show us a period of time where evil people have not killed, enslaved, exploited, lied, plundered and raped. Show us a time where ignoble societies were not driven by imperialism and greed. The feely and touchy approach will never change or lessen inhumanity. The core of the problem dwells deep within human DNA. One needs to accept the fact that to the Homo- Sapien, killing is as natural as procreation. You will never stop war! America should be charitable, but firm as well! .We should not tolerate bullies! Sadly, when a forth right country is engaged in fighting evil bullies, the loss of precious life becomes a matter of   factual reality. Death is part of the natural order of things. One needs to accept this painful axiom and when necessary learn to wear a stoic face.

The American Forces were victorious in WW1. However, two decades latter we were rewarded with WW11.We cured Small Pox and we were rewarded with Polio Myelitis, the Salk Vaccine cured Polio and now we are cursed with the AIDS Virus. During WW1, loosing 10,000 men in a day due to fatal wounds and Influenza was not unusual. In contrast to approximately 1000 American men and women per year in Iraq & Afghanistan. Granted, this is a horrid price to pay in order to keep a strong presence in the world’s largest keg of powder. Anyone who fails to understand the protection our presence affords us (and the world) is foolish. All the lefty whimpering and all the lefty whining have a zero impact on the natural order of things. Either the extremists are destroyed or they will kill us!

I am profoundly disturbed at the escalating loss of American military life, as well as the lives of our allies. However, those that feel hugs and kisses are a cure for America’s problems and the world’s global issues are fools.  Sadly, the only panacea to our survival is the eradication of all Muslim extremists. Yes, just like Small Pox and Poliomyelitis!
All  are  equally pathogenic, equally dangerous! We need to remember world history.  A nation can not rest. New enemies, human, bacterial, viral and environmental (weather) are always around the corner.  If we become hedonistic and soft, we will continue to erode and America will fall, just as the Empire of Rome. Historically, Americans have been extremely tolerant. We have endured countless hijackings, the murder of Robert Kennedy, embassy attacks, the Munich Olympics, the taking and torture of hostages and the straw that broke the Camel’s back, September the 11th.

My question to all the touchy feely protestors is how many times does your throat have to be cut before the hug fest ends? Perhaps in the next world hugs and kisses may work. Not in this world, like it or not, might is right!  Ask Charlie Darwin, ask the American boys that landed on Iwo Jima, the beaches of Normandy etc. It was pure revenge plus Darwinism that won WW11. It was about imposing America’s will on her enemies. It was about the blood of the American grunts, air men and sailors that gave whining left wing cry babies the right to protest. One should think of   freedom as a daily invoice, paid for in human life. Think of your life and your freedom as an endless debt.!!!  In other words, freedom is not free! The invoice must be paid daily.Political banter (at best) only achieves uneasy treaties and vulnerability. A long term, permanent peace is only accomplished by the total defeat of those that continue to harm America & her friends.
