Imagine dining in a fine restaurant. A true five star facility. Every table draped in fine linen, with the silver ware, glasses and dishes hand rubbed till they sparkled. Each time the swinging doors to the gourmet kitchen open a wonderful eclectic aroma permeates the dinning room. The kitchen like the dinning room appears to be immaculate and orderly. You glean at the menu for several minutes, pondering the endless choices. You consider trying something different. However, you decide to order one of your favorite dishes; Chicken breasts stuffed with feta cheese and spinach. The dish as always is wonderful tasting. The following day you are greeted with a severe case of reverse peristalsis or vomiting. It seems the Chicken gave you Listeria and the Spinach was contaminated with a plant toxin. You are off to the emergency room. Many issues in life have a high degree of visibility and are easily managed. However, some things are not detectable until they happen. Last year the Diamond Dog food Company and this year the Iams and Eukanuba Companies had contaminated product. This can happen to any company in the food industry. It doesn’t matter whether the food is served in a gourmet restaurant or in a bag, box, can or a pouch. Raw or cooked, unknown risk factors exist! |
