In truth, CANIDS are so well suited for survival their menu is endless. Problems may arise with a never changing, perpetual diet, and even then the "durable dog" may adjust without side effects. It is only when dogs are denied hydration for an unreasonable time span that death is eminent.I will leave the question of what percentages of flesh apply to the CANIDS overall diet unanswered, as I feel it is more important to understand the basic needs of the dog and not waste time studying an answerless situation. If we were to take a quick look at the sport of Greyhound Racing as well as mushing we would find the overwhelming use of flesh products. The reason is surely not convenience!! If you feed your dog within the "MODIFIED NATURAL REARING" ideology which supports an omnivorous menu; with a strong emphasis on meat your canine will roar, not moo!!! Those of you that wish to feed your kennel an herbivore diet would be better off raising cattle. Over the years I have seen CANIDS consume dairy, sheep heads, tripe, beef, fish, deer meat, and all sorts of vegetables. I have seen dogs eat various types of rodents, including prairie dogs and wood chucks, raccoons, rabbits, and other unsavory appetizers and entrees. The durable dog is a land shark with a mind and a strong desire to pack. The canid is as loving as he is lethal. We should not attempt to alter this magnificent animal. Feed your dog with respect!!! |
