1-14-2008,evening news, channel 2. The FDA & Department of Agriculture appear to be in favor of vendors - ranchers selling meat from cloned animals for human consumption. Based on my understanding, they do not want the packaging label to reflect or disclose the meat is a result of a cloning program. This seems to contradict the austere labeling practices of AFCO, CVM, Dept Of Agriculture & the FDA.

I would like to tell you an old story. I am in possession of a letter dated 9-7-1999. This document is from the Center of Veterinary Medicine. Drafted by John P. Homstead who was a Veterinary Medical Officer for the CVM, Upon reading my correspondence regarding potential health concerns as a result of using dogs & cats in dog & cat feed. Homestead implied, my concerns were exaggerated! He went on to write that CVM opted to leave this practice in force. CVM felt it was not a frequent practice and treated the issue as a non event. Ever wonder why a flea collar shows up in a bag of dog feed? Ever wonder where all the euthanitized dogs and cats go?

I tried to get help solving this problem, to no avail. I hooked up with a lawyer who was also a GSD judge. He was very interested, but never did his part. I wrote letters, made phone calls and never got to first base. To my knowledge the practice of using companion animals in dog and cat food is still allowed. In truth, this practice generates an inexpensive protein source. The dog & cat material is easily made into animal digest. Digests are approved by AFCO. In big industry the bottom line is all that matters. Perhaps this is why some of the less expensive, lower end rations are extremely profitable.

If anyone would like a copy of the CVM letter we would be glad to provide this document. Thanks for taking the time to read my essay.
