I felt I had an adequate knowledge 0f recent American-World History. I was convinced my history teachers made a full disclosure of the World's improprieties. Examples: The killing of over one million Armenians by the Turks, the European-American enslavement of Black Africans, the slaughter of the American Indian, the systematic ethnic killing in Europe of nineteen million people by Germany. The slaughter of the Chinese by the Japanese prior and during WW11. Although what follows is on a much smaller scale, it remains a disgraceful American secret. America purchased Alaska from Russia for 2.5 cents per acre. (known as Fultons Folley) During WW11, Alaska was a possession of America but had not yet acquired the status of statehood. In 1942, 900 Aleuts were pulled from their homes and transported to the Alaskan main land. The Aleuts were then put in internment camps for the purpose of hard labor. The Aleuts developed vitamin deficiencies with many dying of Pneumonia. In addition, many Aleuts simply froze to death as a result of exposure. In spite of living conditions being described as sub human, hundreds of these rugged Aleuts survived. In 1945, Alaska removed all of it's Aleut segregation signs.
Sadly, It took approximately 30 years (longer) for our lower 48 states
to follow Alaska in the banishment of segregation. |
