It has been brought to my attention that the MK9 protein comparisons between dry matter dog food vs. raw flesh products are not proper comparisons. My reply is as follows, if a dog eats a Rabbit that is 22% protein & another dog eats dry food that is 22% protein, on a percentage basis they are consuming the same percentage of protein.
It would appear the notion of removing water from meat in order to get a DM percentage is an interesting (academic) exercise. However, for one to consider the DM protein percentages as a feeding strategy, is in our view dangerous. Perhaps Mother Nature doesn't package her food in a dry matter fashion, because it may pose danger to the skeletal system, kidneys liver etc. I believe water is natures way of reducing the side effects of excessive protein. See references. My next assertion hasn't any foot notes or references. I am of the opinion, when conditioning sport dogs, excessive protein levels delay second & third winds. This may cause dogs to run hot, negatively impacting focus, creating avoidance as well as physical failures. I also believe feeding high protein foods causes digestive problems. Some examples are pudding stools, gas issues, loose stools and reverse peristalsis. The larger the dog the more prevalent these problems may become. If the reader has done the subtraction & the division and continues to feel high protein is the answer, kindly confirm the legitimacy of my references.
