Confinement is not a pretty word to man or beast. It is a slow, agonizing, painful death for the canid. Boredom rots the canids mind, body and soul. Unlike many of the topics I write about, confinement has more to do with responsibility than the absence of responsibility. I suspect that many of the developmental / behavioral situations that plague the modern dog have to do with confinement. With people living closer, it becomes more difficult to raise pups the old fashion way. Those that are blessed with their own homes have smaller parcels of land with less privacy.
Frustration and anger are what the caged dog feels. Nature tells him to run, stretch out, explore, hunt, socialize and be predacious. The kennel that holds him captive defies and prevents his ability to develop, destroying his personality and Devine spark. If I were to buy a puppy I would gladly pay more for a dog that was fed meat and ranged freely. Free ranging allows a dog to develop its nose, motor skills, awareness, various drives and most importantly robust health. I feel that a negative hormonal response occurs when a dog is incarcerated. This response stimulates disease, especially allergy. FREE RANGING is vastly superior to confinement!!! Are you as guilty as I am??? |
