For several years, I have kept an article of interest on my desk top. This writing is excellent for reference work. The article is in my view a worthwhile read; written by Chris Zink DVM & it is titled Early Spay-Neuter Considerations For The Canine Athlete. The article in my view under plays the harm done by the the two proceedures. However, that is not the authors intention. Chris Zink DVM is waving a red flag & is saying many problems - side effects exist as a result of early surgeries etc. I feel the two surgeries are (truly) more harmful than the article reflects. You can google this artcle & form your own decision.
