Animal Factory, a recent writing by Kirby asserts that sanitation & feed practices in America as it pertains to human food are @ their worst. This book & author were featured on the Don Imus show. Imus although a perplexing man is quite serious about reviewing books as is Oprah & others. If the Kirby claims are valid, we humans will be facing deadly problems. Mad Cow being a possibility. We have learned what happens when protein sources derived from a Bovine source are fed to identical species. What about our dogs & our Cats? I hold a document which is eleven years old. It was written to me by John P. Homestead DVM. M/S. a member of the Center of Veterinay Medicine of which The American Feed Control Officials are germane to. Homestead was completely honest - transparent in admitting, based on AFCO guidelines the practice of feeding dogs & cats to dogs & cats is acceptable to both AfCO & the CVM. He goes on to say this practise is in frequent & my fears are exaggerated. I was pleased with Homestead's integrity. I just did not like the answer. After all, one could argue if it is in fact a rare feeding practice, why keep the law on the books? If you would like to read this document & are serious about changing this ruling; I will e mail a copy to you. I have not read Kirby's book. However, it can be obtained @ Barnes & Noble.
