Most of us have slept with our dogs @ some time. As a young man, I owned several dogs & I could not get enough dogs under the covers. As I matured I discovered designer sheets & that ended the practice of sleeping with dogs.
I now feel sleeping with dogs is not healthy - sanitary & perhaps dangerous. The information that follows is based on my experiences. Here is what everyone knows, dogs are pack animals. On a personal level,I believe most canids have the capacity to turn feral in about 6 - 8 weeks. So one may conclude, dogs live with us as opportunists. Having said this, we have all heard stories about dogs snapping & even biting owners with out provocation. Perhaps, in some of these bite cases their is a commonality. Assuming a dog's bowl represents the ultimate prize. The quintessential possession or trophy! Believe it or not, the bed is a close second. In some cases may become the greater trophy - accomplishment. Some dogs will have personality changes as a result of sleeping with elite members of the pack-household. The dog that falls into the 20% group may start testing the owners by growling in bed. This may morph in to the entire house & even the car. The twenty percenter may still love you. However, he/she has lost respect for you, in terms of your pack position. To avoid this loss of respect, along with shedding, gas, tick bites, internal parasites, leakage, breathing issues & lets not forget the dirty bedding. It is best if you don't sleep with your dog!
