My favorite evening for television watching is on Tuesday evenings. The reason is simple, Tuesday night fights. Sean O'Grady, being one of my favorite boxing commentators, narrates some great bouts. Anyway, the Tuesday night fights were pre empted by the second largest dog show in the world, The Westminster Dog Show. I am not a huge fan of this type of exhibition however, I thought I would give it a shot. Some of the breed knowledge may be interesting, plus they were judging best in breed which gives me the opportunity to expand my mental inventory of the smaller dogs.

A guttural voiced man provides the breed information for the viewers. It is a know it all voice, a voice rich in lofty claims and free flowing compliments. Every breed having wonderful traits and many being willing to die for their masters. He is fast to admit that every breed has strength, endurance and a willingness to please.

How can he be so certain? I am surrounded by breeders that only breed for these traits and can't get them. Most of the dogs at the Westminster (I am certain) are sweet lovable mushes. However, I believe it is wrong to mislead the public. The A.K.C. dogs are plagued with health problems. Expensive, life and death maladies. Maladies so severe that they break your heart and empty your pockets. The viewers should be told the truth, the WHOLE TRUTH!
